Kevin Wiegratz receives the Faculty Award 2022 of the KIT-Department of Economics and Management

We congratulate Kevin Wiegratz for receiving the Faculty Award 2022 for his outstanding Master’s thesis. During the award ceremony, Dean Andreas Oberweis emphasized the high level of excellence achieved by the thesis. The thesis was advised by Daniel Hoang and studies applications of machine learning in finance.

Kevin Wiegratz receives the Hanns Voith Award 2021

The department congratulates Kevin Wiegratz for receiving the Hanns Voith Award 2021 for his outstanding Master’s thesis. The thesis was advised by Daniel Hoang and studies applications of machine learning in finance. Each year, the Hanns Voith Foundation recognizes excellent and innovative theses that are related to the business areas of the Voith Group.


Kevin Wiegratz receives the 2021 University Award of the City of Karlsruhe

The department congratulates Kevin Wiegratz for receiving the University Award of the City of Karlsruhe for his excellent Master’s thesis and overall outstanding academic performance. In her laudation, the mayor of Karlsruhe emphasized the relevance and high degree of innovation achieved by the thesis. This year, the award ceremony took place during the welcoming event for the new freshman students at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

 

Three awards for excellence in teaching 2019

No less than three course offerings from the summer term 2019 were awarded at this year's anniversary celebration of the Department of Economics and Management. Two teaching prizes were given to Daniel Hoang and Richard Schubert for their outstanding performance in their excercises on Corporate Financial Policy and Financial Management, respectively.  A third prize was given to Prof. Ruckes and Daniel Hoang for their strong commitment to the Bachelor Finance Seminar on climate finance which was offered using a new online format while receiving excellent evaluations from students as well.

Larry Lang Corporate Finance Best Paper Award 2019

The department congratulates Andreas Benz and Daniel Hoang for receiving the Larry Lang Corporate Finance Best Paper Award 2019 for their research paper "Corporate Diversification and Capital Structure" during this year's annual meeting of the European Financial Management Association (EFMA). The Larry Lang Corporate Finance Best Paper Award recognized the research paper that has the most potential to advance the understanding in the field of corporate finance. We share the laureates' happiness with the award, which emphasizes the striking relevance of their research.

Richard Schubert received a teaching award for his discussion session to the lecture "Financial Management" during the summer term 2017.

Master thesis honored by the Department of Economics and Management 2017

The master thesis of Henrik Schürmann entitled „Is executive compensation really downward rigid? Implications from a matching model and empirical evidence”  has been honored with the 2017 faculty award on July 22, 2017 by the Department of Economics and Business Engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).

 

Three Teaching awards from the Department of Economics and Management 2016

The Department for Finance and banking received three teaching awards for the second time in a row. Dr. Daniel  Hoang has been awarded two teaching awards for his discussion session in „Corporate Financial Policy“  and „Finanzintermediation“ during the summer term 2016 and the winter term 2015/2016, respectively. For the third year in succession, Dr. Peter Limbach received a teaching award for the discussion session in "Corporate Finance I“.

Both Meik Scholz and Dr. Daniel Hoang received a teaching award for their discussion sessions regarding the courses  „Financial Management“  and „Corporate Financial Policy“, respectively during the summer term 2015. Dr. Daniel Hoang has been awarded also a teaching award for his discussion session regarding the course "Financial Intermediation" during the winter term 2014/2015.

DGF Best Paper Award 2013

Prof. Ruckes und Prof. Mello have been honored with the Best Paper Award at the 20th Annual Meeting of the German Finance Association (DGF) for their research paper entitled “Collateral in Corporate Financing”.

3rd place at the Leonardo & Co. Award 2011 for the Best Bachelor Thesis in M&A

The Bachelor thesis"Predicting leveraged buyout success - do fixer-uppers and non-fixer-uppers influence takeover success probability in Europe?" was awared 3rd place of the Leonardo & Co. Award (Supervisor: Dr. Peter Limbach).
